Lakers to train, play game here

Advertiser Staff

The Los Angeles Lakers will begin defense of their back-to-back NBA Championships with a 10-day training camp in Honolulu and a game here against the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers are scheduled to arrive Sept. 28 and train through Oct. 8. They will play Golden State Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center, according to Lakers and University of Hawai'i officials.

Tickets are tentatively scheduled to go on sale Aug. 25 at the Sheriff Center box office between 9 a.m and 5 p.m. Additional arrangements will be announced later. Ticket prices range from $10 to $65.

So far practices will be closed to the public.

Golden State is scheduled to arrive Oct. 5 and will also work out on the UH campus.

The teams leave Oct. 9 for Tokyo, where they will play exhibition games Oct. 13 and 14.

The Lakers are expected to bring a large contingent of fans.

The team's stopover here would be its ninth since 1988. The Lakers appeared here every season but one between 1988 and '96, usually holding their training camps here as well.
