Show Biz
She looked like J-Lo and had her credit card

SIGHT 'EMS: Jennifer Lopez, the Latin diva, apparently was shopping at Neiman Marcus the other day. When fans recognized the singer-actress, asking her if indeed she was J-Lo, she denied it. But a Jennifer Lopez credit card emerged when she paid for, among other things, two blouses ...

Pat Sajak, "Wheel of Fortune" host in town for rehearsals of his fall play here, "The Odd Couple," dined with his family at Keo's in Waikiki, one of his usual stops whenever he's in town ...

Sajak's co-star, Joe Moore, KHON Fox 2 anchor, was spotted dining at Cascada at the Royal Garden at Waikiki Hotel. It's the chic hideaway eatery with a European flair, recently purchased by executive chef Arman Abero ...

AFTER HOURS: Afatia and Nicole Thompson (he's a member of the singing group Reign, an occasional fire knife dancer in his family's Tihati Productions shows, and a University of Hawai'i Rainbows fullback), marked their first wedding anniversary last week, and his parents, Jack and Cha Thompson, brought them (as part of a party of 10) to the Esprit nightclub at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel to catch Tino and the Rhythm Klub. Tino and the band were nervous, since it was the first time all Thompsons were in for a look-see. But imagine Tino's plight (fright?) when onsite announcer Yemun Chung mentioned that one of the songs in a Rhythm Klub love medley, "I'm On the Outside Looking In," was penned by Teddy Randazzo, who was part of the Thompson party. Randazzo got on stage to jam with the Rhythm Klub, sharing his other hot hits, "Hurt So Bad," "Goin' Out of My Head" and "Richer Than I" ...

Mike Suman, who hires performers for the Norwegian Cruise Lines, spent a few nights in town, catching up on shows and auditioning locals for future gigs ...

HERE 'N' THERE: Don Ho, back at his Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel slot following a road tour, was the subject of a nice profile ("He bubbles with good humor" ) recently in the Los Angeles Times. A photo of Ho and daughter Hoku accompanied the story, which also quoted — no surprise — the late Kimo Wilder McVay ...

With his office AC on the fritz one recent hot day, Larry Paxton — a University of Hawai'i voice professor who played the King in Diamond Head Theatre's "Cinderella" revival and will be the titular figure in "Jekyll and Hyde" this fall — figured he may as well have a hot lunch. He opted for a sizzling steak at Ruth's Chris, in the company of Edward Gerard, Tiffany vice president, who was in many musicals and operettas in high school and college ...

Cheeseburger in Paradise has sprouted at The Shops at Wailea on Maui, and the formal launching featured a blessing by Charles Kaupu, and music by Barry Flanagan and Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom ...

Look for Hawai'i Kai resident Dr. Paul Pearsall, a neuropsychologist and best-selling author ("Partners in Paradise — Sharing Success, Creating Joy, Fulfilling Dreams Together"), on the Montel Williams Show set to air Aug. 7. Nalani, of Kuhai Halau O Kawaikapuokalani Pa 'Olapa Kahiko, presents a lei to Williams and also dances on "Ka Pilina," which Pearsall narrates ...
