Couple arrested in alleged nightmarish punishments
Associated Press
A deputy state sheriff and his girlfriend were arrested yesterday for bizarre punishments they allegedly inflicted on his two daughters, ages 10 and 12.
Charles Canady, 37, of Kalihi, and Theresa Danielson, a nurse at the Queen's Medical Center, were each charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, a misdemeanor, and freed on $200 bail, police said.
"It was reported to us that he had forced his daughters to pick up dog feces in their mouths and deposit the dog feces into a toilet," said Lt. Evan Ching of the Child Abuse Detail. "He did this to teach them a lesson to pick up after the family dog."
The girls also told police Danielson used the family cat's toothbrush on the 10-year-old and then pushed cat toothpaste into her mouth until she gagged. Danielson did this, they said as punishment for not properly brushing the cat's teeth.
Police quoted the girls as saying they were also punished by having to carry a 40-pound dumbbell, and that Danielson once tied a dog leash around the older girl's neck with a weight attached so that she would choke if she dropped the weight.
The girls are in the custody of Child Protective Services.
