Kona educator remembered

Advertiser Staff

HOLUALOA, Hawai'i — A community memorial service for longtime Kona arts educator Carol Rogers will be conducted from 3 to 4 p.m. today in the Holualoa School cafeteria.

"Auntie Carol," as she was affectionately known, died June 21 after a brief illness. She was 90.

With her husband, Bob Rogers, who died in 1994, she launched the Kona Arts Center in 1965.

Norman Sakata, a close friend and leader of the arts center, said a private scattering of ashes at sea will follow the memorial gathering.

Memorial donations to the nonprofit arts center are requested in lieu of flowers.

However, loose flowers or lei made of biodegradable materials will be accepted, Sakata said.
