People interested in creating mentoring programs for young people or enhancing existing programs are invited to "Youth Mentoring: Lessons and Challenges," a conference hosted by the Hawai'i Mentoring Initiative, Aug. 14-15 at Tokai University Hawaii.
"This is a networking effort, to organize and form local partnerships (between mentoring programs) and also to give (participants) a flavor of the programs that already exist," said Mike Casey, director of the state-financed Hawai'i Mentoring Initiative. Conference topics include working with targeted youths and exploring different models of mentoring programs. The conference runs 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Cost is $20, which includes continental breakfast and lunch on both days. Deadline to register is Friday. Call 946-0253.
