Joey Valentin continued his successful summer run through the Hawaiian Longboard Federation's Steinlager Series with a victory in the Local Motion No Ka Oi in 1- to 3-foot waves yesterday at Launiupoko Wayside Beach, Maui.

Valentin has won two of the four events so far this season, and placed fifth in the other two. He received $550 for his victory yesterday.

Fellow O'ahu surfers Kanoa Dahlin and Kamu Auwae placed second and third, respectively. Eli Klukowski placed fourth and was the top Maui finisher. Patrick Fukuda and Tommy Chun-Ming tied for fifth.

All competitors had to ride boards at least nine feet long. Kekoa Uemura, who was ranked No. 1 in the professional division of the HLF prior to yesterday, did not participate. He and several other of Hawai'i's top longboard surfers are competing in a contest in Brazil.

Finals in the amateur divisions will be completed today at Launiupoko. The next event in the series is scheduled for Aug. 11-12 at Kailua, Kona.
