$1 million bail in Waipahu sex assault case

A 23-year-old Waipahu man is being held today on $1million bail after he was charged with 26 counts of sexual assault involving a 10-year-old Waipahu girl.

Shane Fernandez was charged yesterday with 10 counts of first-degree sex assault, 16 counts of third-degree sex assault and three counts of first-degree promotion of child abuse.

Police arrested him after the girl told her mother of the alleged offenses at her home on Friday night. Fernandez was a friend of the family, police said.
