Families of two teens killed in wreck sue driver, supermarket chain

The families of two Mililani High School students who were killed in a traffic accident in April have filed a lawsuit against the driver of the car and a supermarket chain that allegedly sold alcohol to a friend of the driver.

Andrew Delos Reyes, 18, and Anthony Alexander, 17, were killed April 12 when a car in which they were riding crossed the center line on Kaukonahua Road, struck a guard rail, and rammed an oncoming car. The collision also killed Jeremy Tolentino, who also was a passenger in the car.

Yesterday, the parents of Delos Reyes and Alexander filed a lawsuit in Circuit Court charging that the driver of the car, Brian Dade, drove his car in a negligent and/or grossly negligent manner. Dade, 18, was a classmate of the three victims.

The lawsuit says Dade was intoxicated at the time of the accident and accuses Foodland Super Market Ltd. of selling the alcohol to a friend of Dade's. The unnamed friend, the suit claims, also was a minor, and he gave the alcohol to Dade.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Samuel and Evelyn Delos Reyes, parents of Andrew, and Michael Sr. and Leila Alexander, parents of Anthony. The suit was filed by attorneys Gerard Jervis, James Aiona Jr. and Charles Price.

The families seek an undetermined amount in damages.
