Leo's Taverna packed with tasty Greek food

By Catherine E. Toth

Tony Boyadijan, owner of Leo's Taverna on Bishop Street, carves meat for gyros. The Greek specialty is tasty and filling – but bring a sturdy bag to carry the food with you.

We wanted Greek food. And we got it — a ton of it — at Leo's Taverna at 1116 Bishop St.

The lamb-and-beef gyro was huge, packed with hummus, tomato chunks and spices. Tasty and filling. While pricey on its own (4.45), the gyro value meal is a better deal. For $6.95 you get a gyro with spicy fries and a soda.

We also recommend the chicken kabobs ($7.45 for two, $5.95 for one), which were tender and bursting with flavor. In fact, they made one taster roll her eyes back in sheer euphoria. The meal comes with hummus, salad and garlic sauce.

If you go, bring a sturdy bag to carry the food back.
