Man charged in wife's attack
Police have charged a 29-year-old Waikele man with first-degree terroristic threatening for allegedly trying to suffocate his wife.
Richard Wolfe's bail was set at $100,000, police said.
They say the man told his 37-year-old wife he wanted to give her a massage at a Waikele home, then tried to suffocate her.
The woman was able to break free and told police her lower extremities had started to go numb and she nearly lost consciousness.
The man told the woman he wasn't trying to kill her, but to teach her a lesson because he thought she was leaving him.
The woman feigned forgiveness and left for a dentist appointment. She went to the Waikele Kmart and had someone call police. The man was arrested at the Waikele residence.
Woman injured as SUV overturns
A 70-year-old woman was critically injured yesterday when her sport utility vehicle ran off the road and landed upside-down in Waihe'e Stream in Windward O'ahu.
Police said the Ka'a'awa woman was driving her 1999 Toyota Rav 4 on Kamehameha Highway when she lost control of the vehicle at about 9:45 a.m. The vehicle struck a chain-link fence and a wooden guardrail before crashing into the stream.
The driver was trapped in the overturned vehicle for about five minutes before bystanders pulled her out, police said. She was taken to the Castle Medical Center where she was in critical condition yesterday.
Police were looking into the cause of the crash, but they said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
Hawai'i fugitive held in Nevada
A man wanted for sex assault and kidnapping in Hawai'i was being held yesterday in a Las Vegas-area jail after his arrest.
Joshua Reed, 25, was found yesterday at an apartment less than a mile from the University of Nevada campus, police said.
He had been sought since pleading guilty March 2 to felony charges in Hawai'i and failing to appear for sentencing.
Reed was accused of holding his 16-year-old girlfriend and her friend at knifepoint in a Kailua apartment in October and sexually assaulting his girlfriend.
A multi-agency Las Vegas-area fugitive task force said Reed used the name Erick Victor to book a March 19 airline flight to Los Angeles. He had been in Las Vegas for about two months.
