Kaua'i trying to sell millions in bonds
LIHU'E, Kaua'i Kaua'i County has floated $45 million in bonds at an interest rate of 5.19 percent.
That is more than three-quarters of a percent less than the rate the county got in its last bond sale last year, partly because the county's bond rating has improved.
Two-thirds of the bond sale is being used to refinance 1994 and 2000 bonds that were issued at higher rates. The remaining $15 million is for capital improvement projects.
Reward offered for horse-killing dogs
LIHU'E, Hawai'i The Kaua'i Humane Society has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the owner of three pit bulls involved in a fatal attack on a horse.
The attack occurred May 18 while Elaine Schaefer was riding a 7-year-old mare along a trail on the rim of Hanalei Valley. Schaefer escaped serious injury when the horse bucked her off. The dogs then chased the horse off a 50-foot cliff.
