Hula kahiko contest winners announced

Congratulations to the winners of the Hawai'i Secondary Schools Hula Kahiko Competition, held on May 12 at Kapolei Middle School. The winners of the following categories are:

Intermediate Division Awards:

  • Lokomaika'iokalani Snakenberg Hawaiian Language Award: Moloka'i Intermediate School.
  • Hui'ia (combined wahine and kane): Ke Kula Kaiapuni 'o Anuenue and Kamehameha Schools, first-place tie; Moloka'i Intermediate School, second place; Samuel Wilder King Intermediate School, third place.
  • Kane: Kamehameha Schools, first place; Moloka'i Intermediate School, second place; Samuel Wilder King Intermediate School, third place.
  • Wahine: Punahou School, first place; Kamehameha Schools, second place; Kapolei Middle School, third place.
  • Kahala Foundation Overall Trophy: Punahou School.

High School Division Awards:

  • Malia Craver Hawaiian Language Award: Mid-Pacific Institute.
  • Hui'ia: Mid-Pacific Institute, first place; Nanakuli High School, second place; Wai'anae High School, third place.
  • Kane: Mid-Pacific Institute, first place; Castle High School, second place.
  • Wahine: Kamehameha Schools, first place; Kailua High School and Mid-Pacific Institute, second-place tie; Punahou School, third place.
  • Governor Ben Cayetano Overall Trophy: Kamehameha Schools.
