About 100 people gathered for the torch lighting of the opening ceremonies of the Aloha State Games last night at Kaka'ako Waterfront Park.

One event began yesterday — action pistol shooting at Koko Head Range, which continues today.

The games get into full swing next weekend with badminton, archery, judo, tennis and other events.

The Aloha State Games will conclude with water polo on July 7-8 at the University of Hawai'i pool.

Cem Esteban is the leader in the overall division of action pistol, while Keith Kawamoto and Robert Loui are in second and third place, respectively.

In the standard division, Randy Gavino leads, with Chet Nierenberg and Brett Buchanan right behind. The standard division is for guns with "iron sights" only.

The overall division includes guns with any kind of sights. Shooters are allowed to compete in only one division per day, so the scores posted yesterday will stand for those individuals, who may switch divisions today.

About 60 competitors showed up yesterday. The medals will be awarded after today's scores are combined with yesterday's.
