• The Building Industry Association Of Hawai'i has extended the entry deadline, and announced a new name and new categories, for the 2001 BIA Renaissance Building and Remodeling Awards. The deadline for submitting entry forms and fees has been extended to June 15; awards for quality construction and design will include new, as well as remodeled, residential and commercial projects. Winners of the newly named competition will be announced Aug. 17 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.


JUNE 14

• Drake Beil, president of Solutions Inc. and author of the weekly "60 Seconds on Business" newspaper feature, will lead a seminar June 14 on conflict management. The discussion, part of "The Leadership Series" sponsored by Hawai'i Employers Council, will be held 8:30 to 11 a.m. (registration 8 a.m. ) in the Kahili conference room at the council's 2682 Waiwai Loop headquarters. The discussion will include basic causes of conflict, the five approaches to its resolution, and identification of "typical troublemakers." Fee; nonmembers welcome. Hawaiian community leader Beadie Kanahele Dawson, a former state deputy attorney general, will be the speaker. Dawson, also chief executive officer and general counsel of Dawson International and Dawson Group, played a significant part in developments following publication of the "Broken Trust" essay on Bishop Estate trustees. • New legislation that requires mediation of condominium disputes between owner and association, even if only one party requests it, will be among topics discussed at an upcoming seminar on mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
