• ROBERT ROWLAND has been named chief executive officer for Straub Clinic and Hospital. The new CEO joins the president, Dr. Ken Robbins, as the facility's top two administrators. Previously, Rowland was a principal with ECG Management Consultants in Seattle and executive director for Swedish Medical Services, Seattle. He also held executive positions with Sutter Medical Foundation and the Sacramento Sierra Medical Group.

• Forty-year Aloha Festivals veteran GAIL "MOANA" YEE has been promoted to manager of Aloha Festival celebrations on O'ahu, including overseeing the annual Honolulu Floral Parade and Downtown and Waikiki Ho'olaule'a. Yee was most recently executive secretary to festival executive director Janet Hyrne.

• WALLIS J.K. PïNUA, account executive with Punua Insurance Agency on Kaua'i and director/producer at Rohotu Polynesian Shows, was named the Kaua'i festival manager.

• Architects Hawai'i Ltd. principal BETTINA MEHNERT has been named marketing director. In addition to responsibilities as principal and director of information systems, Mehnert will be responsible for all marketing and business development. The architect joined the firm in 1988.

• David Heerwald Leonard has been promoted to vice president, general counsel and assistant secretary of Tesoro Hawai'i. Leonard, who joined the company in 1995 as counsel and was named general counsel and assistant secretary last year, will continue to oversee all legal matters for the company.

• JOHN L. GARIBALDI, former chief financial officer of both Aloha and Hawaiian airlines, has been named president and chief executive officer of Zephyr Insurance Co. He joins the firm after a year's hiatus as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Hawaiian Airlines. He is also past trustee of the Queen Emma Foundation; vice president and chief financial officer of the Queen's Health Systems; and senior vice president and chief financial officer of Aloha Airlines.

  • JEANETTE CALDEIRA, vice president of marketing, was promoted to executive vice president and chief underwriting and marketing officer.
  • MAUREEN SORONAKA, formerly of Noguchi and Associates, was named new underwriting manager.

• Architectural, planning and consultants firm Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo has named architect MICHELE PHILLIPS director of interior design for the firm's Honolulu office. The 20-year veteran of hospitality industry design was most recently with Disneyland Resorts, leading design compliance for Disney's California Adventure Theme Park. Phillips is also past president of Interior Design Associates in Honolulu.

• Servco Pacific Inc. product planning manager BRYAN LEE has been named general sales manager of Servco's new Internet Sales Team. CALVIN YAMADA was named assistant manager in the company's new servcoautocenter.com Web site division created specifically to sell Toyotas online. Both are 13-year Servco veterans.

• ROBERT "MICK" MINICOLA has been named general manager of the 'Ohana Maui Islander hotel, the first of Outrigger Hotels & Resorts' 'Ohana hotel brands located outside Waikiki. The chain assumed management of the former Maui Islander Hotel in Lahaina from Aston Hotels & Resorts on May 1. Minicola is a 20-year veteran of Hawai'i's hospitality industry, having held management positions at the 'Ilikai Hotel, and various Outrigger properties, including the Prince Kuhio, Hobron, Ala Wai Tower and Maile Sky Court and served as director of operations of the 'Ohana's Makai Division of nine Waikiki properties.

• MARI YONESAKI, a 13-year veteran of Spirent Communications' Adtech Division,has been named senior director of operations. Yonesaki has held a number of management positions with the company, including overseeing, in various capacities, manufacturing, production and assembly.

• NEAL KUNDE has been hired as vice president of the workers' compensation unit of AIG Hawaii's subsidiary American Pacific Insurance Co. Inc. Also, PHILLIP OGATA was hired as risk management manager, and FRANCES OBATA was hired as claims manager.

PAMELA S. JONES, executive vice president and chief investment officer of Schuler Homes Inc., has announced a leave of absence from the company for personal reasons. She will continue on the board of directors and will be available for consultation.
