Scholarships, other help offered by Kamehameha

By Beverly Creamer
Advertiser Staff Writer

The Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program — the subject of a Sunday story in the Island Life section two weeks ago — is administered by Kamehameha Schools, and available to college students of Hawaiian ancestry interested in medical careers. To reach the program, call director Sita Nissanka at 842-8561.

The health scholarship program is one of four administered by Kamehameha. The others include:

• The Native Hawaiian Higher Education grant, available to college undergraduates and graduates, offering financial aid for advanced study. Call director Nani Espinda at 842-8550.

• The Kamehameha Talent Search Program, which offers educational assistance to those who have dropped out of high school or college and want to go back. Must be low-income, first-generation college-bound.

• Kamehameha's Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program, offering assistance to elementary and secondary schools to combat drug-abuse and violence. Call director Terry Kelly at 842-8524.
