Wailuku cyclist killed in crash

KULA, Maui — A weekend traffic accident claimed the life of a 23-year-old motorcyclist.

Brandon Shaw of Wailuku was pronounced dead Saturday at Maui Memorial Hospital after his motorcycle hit a car on Kula Highway, police said.

The accident occurred as Shaw was heading toward Pukalani and the oncoming car was making a left turn onto Ke Street, investigators said.

The woman driving the car was alone at the time of the crash. She suffered a scratch to her right leg.

The accident raised Maui's traffic death toll this year to nine. Fourteen people had lost their lives on Maui roads in the same period last year.
