Hawai'i sailing team trails leaders

The University of Hawai'i co-ed sailing team went 4-2 and trailed the leaders after the first day of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Ronstan North American Team Racing Championship yesterday at Cambridge, Mass.
Charleston is also 4-2 and UC Santa Barbara 4-3. The 12 participating teams will be split into a six-team championship division and six-team consolation division after the round robin is completed.
In the round robin, two teams will each sail three boats at a time. The team with the better combined score is declared the winner.
The North American Team Racing Championship, which runs through tomorrow, is the second of three ICSA Spring Championships.
The Wahine sailing team won the ICSA North American Women's Championship last week.
HONORS
Nissan winners: Twelve senior student-athletes were honored last night during the 19th annual Nissan Hawaii High School Hall of Honor scholarship program at the Hawai'i Prince Hotel-Waikiki's Mauna Kea Ballroom.
The winners were given $2,000 college scholarships.
This year's recipients include two players who led their teams to the final of the girls state basketball championship Kalaheo's Brandy Richardson and 'Aiea's Aritta Lane. 'Aiea won 52-45, just five days after losing to Kalaheo by 16 points in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association championship game.
Richardson is expected to be named to the all-state team for the fourth year in a row and could be named Player of the Year for the third straight year. Lane is a strong all-state candidate as well as an all-league volleyball player.
The Class of 2001 also includes:
