10 competing for crown in Miss Hawai'i pageant

Miss America Angela Perez Baraquio and Miss Hawai'i Billie Takaki will serve as co-hosts for the 2001 Miss Hawai'i pageant at 7:30 p.m. June 15 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Coral Ballroom.
The event will be televised live via KFVE (Channel 5). Howard Dashefsky, KHNL news anchor, also will serve as host.
Ten contestants will compete for the right to represent Hawai'i in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, N.J., in September. They are:
- Dana-Li Dung, Miss Honolulu.
- Kalli Kamauoha, Miss Leeward.
- Kellie Peterson, Miss Garden Isle.
- Liane Nane Mark, Miss Waikiki.
- Kaipolani Chang, Miss Nu'uanu.
- Jonell Kalae Saragosa, Miss O'ahu.
- Rachelle Wehrsig, Miss Kona Coffee.
- Jennifer Abreu, Miss Diamond Head.
- Denby Dung, Miss West O'ahu.
- Radasha Leialoha Ho'ohuli, Miss Island O'ahu.
A total of $100,000 in cash scholarships and tuition grants will be awarded. Contestants will be judged in swimsuit, talent, evening wear and interview categories.
The telecast will be repeated at 10 p.m. June 16.
Baraquio was the second Miss Hawai'i to achieve the Miss America title last year; Carolyn Sapp was the first, in 1991.
Hawai'i USA and Hawai'i teen named

Lighter will proceed to the Miss USA finals in Gary, Ind. Paulo-Tamashiro will represent the Islands in the Miss Teen USA finals in Rhode Island.
Both pageants will be televised on KGMB channel 9.
Lighter, 25, is a Pearl City High School graduate who has attended Windward and Leeward Community Colleges and Hawai'i Pacific University. She is the daughter of Natalie Takahashi and Riley Lighter.
Paulo-Tamashiro, 16, attends Varsity International School. Her parents are Charlene Paulo and Alan Tamashiro and she comes from a show-business family; Rene and Akemi Paulo are her grandparents, saxophonist Michael Paulo is her uncle.
