Student arrested in shooting threat

Police arrested a Washington Intermediate student Monday after he allegedly threatened to shoot someone if he didn't graduate.

Police said the 15-year-old boy became upset with his teacher because he thought he wouldn't finish school.

The incident was reported to the police, and the student was arrested on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening. He was later released pending further investigation of the case.


DUI arrests reach 329 on Big Island

Big Island police arrested 10 motorists during the week of May 28-June 4 for investigation of drunken driving.

According to police, there have been 329 drunken-driving arrests so far this year, a 36 percent decrease from the 516 in the same period last year.

Police said there have been 974 major accidents so far this year, compared to 898 during the same period last year, an increase of 8 percent.

So far, there have been 13 traffic fatalities on the Big Island, compared to 10 during the same period last year.

One of this year's traffic fatalities was attributed to driving under the influence of alcohol, compared to six at the same time last year.
