A $25 million renovation at the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel will restore the property's public areas, meeting rooms, restaurants and guest rooms by early next year. The main entrance will feature a grand staircase flanked by cascading tide pools, and will have an ocean view. The hotel's 782 guest rooms will receive new Hawai'i-themed furnishings and decorations, and high-speed Internet access. The upgrade, begun by Marriott after it took over management of the hotel upon change of ownership in February 2000, is aimed at attracting a business-oriented clientele. The hotel expects to raise rates at least 10 percent by next year. Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo is the architect.
