Body found along canal at Nimitz

Advertiser Staff

The body of a 46-year-old man whom police described as homeless was found on the banks of Kapalama Canal under the Nimitz Highway last night.

Police were called to the scene by the man's friend who found the man floating face-down in the water. The friend told police he pulled the man out of the water, but the man showed no signs of life.

Ambulance and fire units attempted to revive the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have opened a murder case because they said the man had head injuries, but they did not know whether the injuries were sustained in a fall or whether the man was beaten.

Police said they believe that the man may have lived under the highway.
