One Asao left standing going into semifinals

Kellen-Floyd Asao won his Manoa Cup quarterfinal, but older brother Norman-Ganin lost yesterday at the O'ahu Country Club.

Jonathan Ota, the 1979 state high school champion, won his semifinal match 1-up yesterday at OÎahu Country Club.

Kellen-Floyd outlasted Eric Fong, 1-up, and will face Christopher Caycayon in one of today's 36-hole semifinals, beginning at 7 a.m. Caycayon stopped Paul Kimura, 1-up.

Jonathan Ota, the 1979 state high school champion, defeated Norman-Ganin Asao, 1-up. It was Ota's third consecutive 1-up victory, after an 8 and 6 win in the opening round. Norman-Ganin reached the final last year, losing to Randy Shibuya, 2 and 1.

Ota will play Ryan Koshi this morning. Koshi stopped Joe Phengsavath, 4 and 3.

The 36-hole final of the 93rd Manoa Cup will begin at 7 tomorrow morning. Admission is free.
