Girls basketball showcased tonight at Kalaheo

Three-time all-state player Brandy Richardson of Kalaheo and Aritta Lane of state champion 'Aiea are among the many standout players showing their stuff in the second annual Hawai'i High School girls basketball showcase tonight and tomorrow at Kalaheo High in Kailua.

Also participating are Monica Tokoro of Iolani, Erika Tadio of Honoka'a, Jodi Nakashima of Roosevelt, Ashley Takata of Kalani, Becky Hogue of Punahou, Shannon Riley of Maryknoll, Natasha Kai of Kahuku and Heather Massey of Radford.

Games are being played at 6:30 and 8 p.m. each evening. The three-day showcase started yesterday.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Proceeds will help the Hawai'i Select Girls Basketball team travel to Las Vegas for the Junior Nationals next month.

Arpin scores in Cup: Former University of Hawai'i water polo player Marie-Luc Arpin scored a goal in Canada's 7-6 victory over the United States in the Canada Cup Saturday at Montreal.

Australia won the championship with a 14-8 victory over the United States on Sunday.
