DeLima birthday bash benefits local students

HAPPY DA KINE: Comedian Frank DeLima, who's been on an Alaskan cruise vacation with his mom, Pearl, turns 52 next July 8, and will use his birthday again as a fund-raiser for his Student Enrichment Program. A birthday party will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8 at the Wisteria Restaurant's banquet rooms, with tickets priced at $25 ($17.50 of which is tax-deductible). DeLima is set to reopen Friday at the Hawaiian Waikiki Beach Hotel. And since he sold out his Father's Day brunch show Sunday at Dot's in Wahiawa, a nighttime prime-rib buffet performance has been added, too, from 5 to 8. WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Maui chef Beverly Gannon is home following a mini-tour promoting "The Hali'imaile General Store Cookbook." She conducted cooking classes at Sur La Table gourmet kitchen stores all over Southern California and in Scottsdale, Ariz.
"The classes were great," said Gannon. "Half the people in the classes had been to the restaurant, and 90 percent bought books." Next up: A Seattle tour and a home state trek to Texas, where Gannon will make her second appearance on "Good Morning Texas" ...
Gannon's co-author Bonnie Friedman, who recently moved from Maui to Philadelphia with a stop in New York while her Philly digs were prepared, has an only-in-New York tale to share. While cabbing with her cohorts at the Hall Co., en route from the office to a restaurant in the Plaza Athenee Hotel on East 64th between Park and Madison avenues, Friedman saw over an eight-block journey: Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, driving in a Mercedes SUV; Matthew Broderick, in sneakers, shorts, T-shirt and glasses, possibly heading for his nighttime performance in "The Producers"; actress Christine Baranski, standing on the corner of Sixth and West 57th Street; and actor George Hamilton at the restaurant ...
ITEMIZATIONS: Janel Parrish, the youngster starring as Wendy in Lisa Matsumoto's and Roslyn's "On Dragon Wings" musical opening in July at Leeward Community College Theatre, will perform at the annual Mits Kawashima/Arnold Schwarzenegger Hawaiian Islands Bodybuilding Championships. She'll do four tunes, including a musical tribute to Tommy Kono and Timmy Leong a homecoming of sorts, since Parrish earned quarters at age 5, singing for folks at Timmy's Gym and she sighs, "I might meet Arnold Schwarzenegger" ...
Travis Meeks of the Louisville, Ky.-based Days of the New band, jumped on stage to perform "Downtown" when Big Toe was playing at Wave Waikiki. Jeff Williamson, Days' manager, said Meeks never sings without his band so it was a credit to Johnny B and Big Toe. Johnny, Meeks and Williamson lunched the next day at Duke's Waikiki ...
Continental Airlines' Ron Wright munched manapua and noodles listening to Colon's CD as part of the airline's nationwide "Take a Break and Celebrate" observance. More than 400 employees partied, with reason: Continental was voted "Airline of the Year" ...
