Guitar, 'ukulele festival at UH
Two guitarists and an Island-based 'ukulele virtuoso will be featured in the Hawai'i Guitar Festival 2001 this month at Orvis Auditorium, University of Hawai'i-Manoa.
The performers are:
- Antigoni Goni, Greek-born classical performer considered by some reviewers to be one of the best female guitarists of her generation.
- Gene Bertoncini, a veteran guitar stylist who has played with numerous "names" of the past, including Benny Goodman, Buddy Rich, Lena Horne and Tony Bennett.
- Lyle Ritz, 'ukulele artist whose recordings in the 1950s influenced a generation of Island musicians.
The concert dates are:
- June 21, 8 p.m. Ritz with Byron Yasui, bassist and 'ukulele player.
- June 22, 8 p.m. Bertoncini and Yasui.
- June 23, 8 p.m. Goni.
Tickets: $15 general, $13 for students, seniors and UH faculty and staff.

Another performance will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with all the musicians, at Kaua'i Community College.
In addition to the concerts, the soloists will present workshops from 1 to 4 p.m. at the UH Music Building, Room 108, as follows: Bertoncini, June 21; Goni, June 22; Ritz, June 23. Those attending should bring their own guitars and 'ukulele. Fee: $30 per workshop or $50 for two. Information: 956-7221.
