State changes payroll system to improve accuracy
Advertiser Staff
The State Department of Accounting and General Services started to test an automated time and attendance system last week in hopes of increasing accuracy and efficiency in payroll for state workers, said Wayne Kimura, the Interim State Comptroller.
The new system began testing at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center. Each employee is given a badge with a magnetic strip to be swiped through an electronic time clock. The recorded information is processed through a server and sent to the central payroll unit at the State Department of Accounting and General Services, where paychecks are printed.
The state has always used paper timesheets and printed payroll schedules to adjust employees' pay for overtime and leaves.
