Anahola man helps contain Kaua'i brush fire

Advertiser Staff

Kaua'i firefighters yesterday credited an Anahola resident with helping them contain a six-acre brush fire near the Anahola Light House that burned for almost five hours Saturday before being contained.

"A gentleman in the area, Kahea White, brought out his Bobcat and cut a fire break," said Battalion Chief Bob Kaden. "That was a big help, because it is problematic for us to get heavy equipment like that to the scene on short notice on a weekend," Kaden said.

About a dozen firefighters from Lihu'e, Kapa'a and Hanalei fought the blaze, which could have threatened homes in the Anahola area, he said.
