Maui gets new apartment complex

LAHAINA, Maui An island with a severe shortage of affordable housing got a bit of relief yesterday.
The Front Street Apartments, a 142-unit affordable rental apartment project, opened with state housing officials joining in a blessing and dedication.
The project was developed by the Front Street Affordable Housing Partners, whose partners include the SunAmerica Affordable Housing Group and Lahaina Homes LLC, with financing from the state's Housing and Community Development Corp. of Hawai'i, Sun America Housing Fund 753 and First Hawaiian Bank.
The state agency allocated $1.2 million in annual federal tax credits and $360,000 in annual state tax credits to the $15.3 million project.
The development, at the corner of Front and Kenui streets, features 16 studio apartments, 80 one-bedroom units and 45 two-bedroom units in 19 buildings on eight acres.
