Cook's Tips
Care for your basting brushes

By Joan Namkoong
Advertiser Food Editor

Getting basting brushes clean can be difficult. Oil or sauce residues can make bristles sticky and even turn smelly. To care for your brushes, wash in hot soapy water, rinse well and shake out excess water. Place them in a cup, with bristles pointing down, and fill the cup with coarse salt to cover the bristles. The salt will draw the moisture out of the bristles and keep them dry and fresh between uses. When you need a brush, simply shake off the salt and it will be ready to use.
