Mililani rapist's minimum term set at 80 years

The so-called "Mililani rapist" convicted for kidnapping and sexually assaulting four teenage girls in 1997 must serve at least 80 years in in prison before he is eligible for release on parole.

The 80-year minimum term for James Allan Thompson, 40, was set by the Hawai'i Paroling Authority.

Last October, after two mistrials, a jury convicted the former prison guard of 19 counts, including seven counts of first-degree sexual assault, two first-degree attempted sexual assault and kidnapping.

Thompson, who said he was not guilty, was accused of stalking five teenage girls and abducting four of them at knifepoint on separate occasions from January to September 1997.

Circuit Judge Dexter Del Rosario sentenced Thompson to nine concurrent life terms in January.
