Suspect arrested in Makakilo home robbery case
Police yesterday arrested the prime suspect in a Makakilo home-invasion robbery last month.
Pearl City police arrested the 26-year-old man after information gathered by the Wai'anae Patrol and Crime Reduction Unit. Charges for kidnapping, burglary and robbery are pending.
Three men broke into a home on Palehua Road and Umena Street on May 22, police said, describing the man they arrested as "the primary aggressor."
The 42-year-old homeowner was tied up with duct tape and assaulted. The robbers demanded money and drugs, then fled with seven guitars and some cash, police said.
A 20-year-old Wai'anae man was arrested May 23 when he tried to pawn the guitars.
Fire damages abandoned Nanakuli home
A brush fire ignited a small abandoned house in Nanakuli today.
The fire department sent three engines, two tankers and 15 firefighters to the 12:39 a.m. alarm at the intersection of Hakimo and Kaukai roads, said Capt. Richard Soo, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.
The fire was under control by 1:17 a.m. and extinguished by 3:10 a.m.
The house, now used as a storage shed, had no electricity or running water.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
