Shark sighting closes beach

WAILUA, Kaua'i — County lifeguards closed Wailua Beach to swimming yesterday morning after a large shark was seen swimming near shore. County water safety chief Kaleo Hookano said a reef shark 6 to 8 feet long was spotted swimming 15 to 30 feet from shore.

Lifeguards posted "no swimming" signs but reopened the beach in the afternoon.
