'Dolphin Days' overflow with food and music

"Dolphin Days," starting Thursday at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island, offers something for everyone, through July 1.

With the Great Waikoloa Food, Wine & Music Festival linked to the event, there will be plenty of music and kaukau, all to benefit the Hawaii Shriners Hospital for Children and the Pacific Marine Life Foundation.

Besides the chance to watch the Hilton dolphins frolic, the festival features a charity golf tournament as well as jazz concerts. The schedule:

  • Thursday — "Trends of the New Millennium," 7 to 10 p.m., Waters Edge Ballroom. Featuring the Hilton's culinary team; entertainment by Halau Hula Ka No'eau. $75.
  • June 29— Perry & Price radio show, 5 to 10 a.m., Lagoon Lanai, Hilton Waikoloa. Also featuring KBIG's DC and KAPA's Lyman & Iaukea. Free.
  • June 29 — dolphin program, 5 p.m., Dolphin Lagoon. A 40-minute program showcasing Dolphin Quest. Free.
  • June 29 — Aloha Friday, 6 to 9 p.m., Hana Hou Bar, Palace Tower lawn. Featuring a Polynesian lu'au, with performances by Tihati Entertainment. $68 (buffet, two drinks, show); $25 for children 5-12.
  • June 30 — Golf tournament and putting challenge, 7:30 a.m. shotgun, Kings' Course. To sign up for tournament, call (808) 886-1234. $135.
  • June 30 — The Great Waikoloa Food, Wine & Music Festival, 6 to 10 p.m., Palace lawn.
