Tip-off
Rock music event will be a fund-raiser

Hawai'i's underground rock bands will come out of the shadows and into the spotlight, when the Music Foundation of Hawai'i and KTUH Radio present the Underground Summer Rock Music Fest, July 2 at the World Cafe.

For many acts, the limelight at a popular rock venue will be a chance to flex and grow. The irony is that the undergrounders will be raising money to support classical music students in local schools, according to Johnny Kai, show organizer and presenter of the annual Hawai'i Music Awards.

Doors open at 8 p.m.

Participating bands include the Delinquents, Native Roots, Red Lites, Prom King, Readygo!, Thocracy A.D. and E.M.D.

The underground tag refers to the genre of musicians whose preference generally is to perform original music with appeal to a dedicated audience, not the masses.

Tickets: $10.

Information: 951-6699.
