Incoming University of Hawai'i President Evan Dobelle will arrive in Hawai'i today, though he does not officially start work for more than a week.
Dobelle, 55, will replace President Kenneth Mortimer, who retires at the end of the month after eight years with the university. Mortimer will do consulting work, policy study and become a senior scholar at the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems in Boulder, Colo.
Dobelle, who had been president of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., will take over the 10-campus UH system July 2. His seven-year contract will pay him $442,000 a year.
