Keauhou resort will join Ohana chain

Advertiser Staff

Outrigger Enterprises will open its first Ohana brand property Aug. 1 on the Big Island when it takes over management of the Keauhou Beach Resort, the company said yesterday.

The Keauhou Beach Resort will become an Ohana hotel when Outrigger Enterprises takes over management Aug. 1. Three weeks ago, Outrigger acquired the management contract for the Royal Cliff Resort, also in Kona.

The 311-room property, until now managed by Aston Hotels and Resorts, will be renamed the Ohana Keauhou Beach Resort.

The acquisition marks Outrigger's sixth new management contract this year and the Ohana brand's second foray to the Neighbor Islands. Earlier this year, Outrigger won the contract for what is now the Ohana Maui Islander Hotel.

Outrigger's presence has been growing on the Big Island's Kona side. Three weeks ago, the company acquired the management contract for the 154-unit Royal Cliff Resort, an upscale condominium resort that it will begin operating July 1. The Kailua oceanfront property will be renamed the Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff Resort.

In 1999, Outrigger acquired the management contract for the Maui Inter-Continental, also an Aston property at the time, shortly before purchasing the resort. The hotel was renamed the Outrigger Wailea Resort.
