Pedestrians still in critical condition

Advertiser Staff

Two people remain in critical condition after separate traffic accidents Thursday night, the second and third involving pedestrians in 10 days.

Both injured pedestrians are at the Queen's Medical Center.

The first accident occurred about 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Moanalua Road and Hekaha Street. Honolulu police traffic investigators said a 72-year-old man tried to cross Moanalua Road against a "Don't Walk" signal and was hit by a westbound Isuzu Rodeo.

The driver of the Rodeo had the green light at the time of the accident. Police don't believe the driver was speeding.

Few details were available on the accident involving the second victim, a 36-year-old woman hit while walking along Fort Weaver Road in 'Ewa near St. Francis Medical Center-West. She was admitted to Queen's at 12:17 a.m. in critical condition.

On June 12, a 50-year-old man died after he tried to cross Ke'eaumoku Street and was struck by a van. The man, who died June 16, was identified by the city medical examiner's office as Gary S. Arisue.
