Many couples planning their weddings may be surprised to know that they can include the Hawai'i Convention Center as a possible reception site.
In July 2000, the Hawai'i Tourism Authority opened the convention center to local-originating events, such as meetings and banquets, including wedding receptions. Since then, the center has booked just one wedding reception.
The convention center books one-day events six months prior to the event day. Couples can choose from 47 meeting rooms, as well as a ballroom that can accommodate 2,000 people. Banquet menu prices vary, but range from $25 to $150 per person, with dinner menus starting at $40 per person.
Randall Tanaka, director of marketing, said the center hopes to develop a package wedding program in the near future, which may include photo opportunities for couples at the convention center. For more information, call 943-3508.
