KCCN-FM 100's summer blockbuster, the KCCN-FM 100 Birthday Bash, is expanding to two nights, with different lineups each night on July 27 and 28 at the Waikiki Shell.

Kapena will perform during the June 28 segment of the radio station's celebration.

Co-sponsored by Budweiser, the event is in its 11th season and will feature these line-ups, representing the 15 current local favorites on radio and in CD sales here:

• July 27 — Fiji, Na Leo, Mana'o Company, Ho'onu'a, Oshen, AZ, Ten Feet and the Island Music MVPs.

• July 28 — Pati, Kapena, 'Ale'a, Natural Vibrations, Three Plus, Sean Na'auao, Koa'uka and the Island Music MVPs.

This year, the first 5,000 entering the turnstiles each night will receive a free only-at-the-bash compilation CD of hit songs by the performing bands, Island Music MVPs. The CD continues a longtime bash tradition of giving a free gift at the door.

FM100 has employed a musical director to assemble and shape a special all-star revue to close the program each night. "We've had impromptu jams at the end of past Birthday Bashes, but this marks the first time we've put the top players together in a rehearsed setting," said Davey D. KCCN-FM 100 program director and afternoon DJ. "We're putting together a local music 'dream' band to close the show in a very professional fashion. We're very excited about presenting this."

"We've had so many bands on the stage in the past that the sets were getting shorter and shorter," said David Booth of Events International, one of the promoters. "We've spread the acts out over two nights this year, letting each band play a long enough set for them to really get into it and really kick the party into high gear."

Doors will open at 4 p.m., with KCCN introducing this year's most-requested groups in the traditional "Live at Five" segment at 5 p.m. for early arrivals. The formal concert begins at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets: One show, $25 for pool seats, $19.50 for terrace, $18 for lawn; two shows, $32 for upper terrace, $30 for lawn (two-show tickets not available for pool seats); now on sale at the box office and Ticket Plus locations. Charge by phone: 526-4000.
