High bail sought in robbery case

Advertiser Staff

Prosecutors are requesting high bail for a 19-year-old 'Aiea man charged Sunday with second-degree robbery and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.

Nohlan Corpuz, who was charged in the robbery case Sunday, has been free on $65,000 bail for unrelated charges of armed robbery and auto theft stemming from his arrest last Dec. 13. The latest charges are related to an incident early Saturday morning in Newtown.

Corpuz was captured at Nahele Street and Ipuala Loop by a 44-year-old man, who chased him down after he allegedly discovered the suspect inside his parked car at 5:45 a.m. Stolen property from the car was recovered at the scene, police said.

Prosecutors are seeking $100,000 bail for the latest offenses.

Corpuz has been free since February, when he posted $65,000 bail for last December's incidents. On Dec. 12, he allegedly stole a 40-year-old woman's purse after hitting her in the head with a stick in the parking lot of Waikele Center. Corpuz was arrested in the early morning hours of Dec. 13 in a stolen car.

He is also a suspect in an attempted-murder case dating back to last Nov. 12. Two police officers allege the suspect attempted to run them down with a car at Waikele Center.
