Pedestrian dies after Kaimuki accident

An 82-year-old Kaimuki man struck by a car Sunday while crossing 10th Avenue at Hardesty Street died yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center.

The medical examiner's office identified the man as Kinichi Kobayashi. He was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m.

Police vehicular homicide investigators say Kobayashi was not in a marked crosswalk when the accident occurred at 4:47 p.m. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors on the part of the driver, police said.

Kobayashi is the 11th pedestrian killed on O'ahu's roadways this year and the 32nd traffic fatality. O'ahu had 33 traffic fatalities on the same date last year.

Another pedestrian remains in critical condition at Queen's. The man, 72, was hit by a vehicle late Thursday night at Moanalua Road and Hekaha Street.
