Body found off Ma'alaea identified

WAILUKU — Maui authorities have identified a free-diver whose body was found in waters off Maalaea as Vivencio Bio Jr. of Kahului.

The 31-year-old man had been spearfishing near the Maalaea mudflats with companions on Saturday when he was reported missing.

His body was found two hours later 1.5 miles from shore near a homemade spear, wet suit and dive bag.

An autopsy was pending.
