Tripler worker indicted in sex abuse case

Advertiser Staff

A former Tripler Army Medical Center employee has been indicted by a federal grand jury on three counts of sexual abuse stemming from an alleged incident at the hospital March 12.

U.S. Attorney Elliot Enoki said Tyrone Fellers, 36, is accused of engaging in a sexual act with a victim who was incapable of declining to participate and who could not communicate at the time the alleged offense took place.

Fellers was arrested June 20 at his Honolulu home. If convicted, he would face a maximum 20-year sentence for the sex abuse count and up to three years imprisonment on each of the two abusive sexual contact charges.

Anyone with information is urged to call the FBI at 566-4300, or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.

Correction: Tyrone Fellers is no longer employed at Tripler Army Medical Center. A previous version of this story incorrectly described his employment status there.
