Army gears up for July 4 extravaganza

Two popular Island groups, the Society of Seven and The Krush, will provide entertainment at the Army's Fourth of July Spectacular July 4 at Sills Field, Schofield Barracks.
Since its inception in 1971, the Army's celebration here has grown into one of the largest patriotic extravaganzas in the U.S. Army network, with more than 65,000 expected to attend.
Besides the headline entertainment, with both acts incorporating appropriate holiday music along with their trademark repertoire, the festivities will include a 5K fun run, a children's one-mile run, food booths, games, a crafts bazaar and pony rides.
Fireworks will be part of a four-hour musical salute.
The schedule:
- 8 to 9 a.m.: Late registration for 5K fun run, packet pick-up.
- 9 to 9:30 a.m.: 5K fun run and registration for children's one-mile fun run.
- 10 to 10:30 a.m.: Children's one-mile fun run.
- 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Pony rides.
- 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Game booths, crafts and new products bazaar.
- 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.: Food booths open.
- 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Battle of the bands winners.
- 4 to 4:05 p.m.: Flag retreat.
- 4:05 to 4:35 p.m.: 25th Infantry Division Band mini concert.
- 4:35 to 5:50 p.m.: The Krush.
- 6 to 7:15 p.m.: Society of Seven.
- 7:15 to 7:45 p.m.: 25th Infantry Division Band, with "1812 Overture" with the Artillery Brigade firing cannons.
- 7:45 to 8:15 p.m.: "The Flags We Follow" pageant, narrated by Jo Pruden.
