Celebrating the Fourth? You have options

Ah, the Fourth of July.

A whole day off at the beach. Festivals in the park. The Kailua parade. Fireworks extravaganzas all around the island. The inevitable post-fireworks traffic jams.

Here's the scoop on this year's Independence Day events, on or before the Fourth, around O'ahu.

Festivals and fireworks

  • Aloha Tower Marketplace Independence Day Celebration. Hyper Games, music and fireworks (8:40 p.m.) over Honolulu Harbor. 6-10 p.m. Tuesday. Free. 566-2337.
  • Ala Moana Center's 4th of July Concert and Fireworks Extravaganza. Hot local music acts – including Colon, Kalapana, Loyal Garner, Kapono and Robi Kahakalau – at the shopping center and fireworks (8:30 p.m.) over Magic Island. 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Free. 955-9517.
  • The Army's 30th Annual Fourth of July Celebration. A full day of keiki events, food, crafts and music followed by Pearl Harbor fireworks (8:15 p.m.), at Schofield Barracks' Sill Field. 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday. Free. 655-0002.
  • July 4th Benefit for the Battleship Missouri Memorial. Juice Newton in concert, dancing, barbeque and Pearl Harbor fireworks, aboard the Mighty Mo. 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Fireworks at 8:30 followed by concert. $25. 526-4400, 423-2263.
  • Ryan's Grill 4th of July Rooftop Party. At Ward Centre parking structure, with music by Koa'uka. 5-10 p.m. Wednesday. Free. 591-9132.
  • Pearl Harbor July 4th Block Party. At Merry Point, Pearl Harbor. Food, carnival games, crafts, Pearl Harbor fireworks (8:30 p.m.) and live music. 2-10 p.m. Wednesday. Free. 473-2434.
  • Fourth of July Picnic in the Park. At Kapi'olani Park Bandstand with music by 'Ale'a, Colon and Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom. 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Free. 523-4385.

Parade and fireworks

  • Kailua Fourth of July Parade. Along Kainalu Drive. 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday; aerial show at 6:30 p.m. over Kailua Beach Park, followed by fireworks at 8 p.m. Free. 261-2727.

Dance

  • "Indepen-dance." Presented by The Pussycat Lounge, Wave Waikiki, with 14 DJs in two rooms. 9 p.m.-4 a.m. Tuesday. $5. 941-0424, ext. 12.
