'Jekyll & Hyde' tryouts at DHT

Diamond Head Theatre will hold auditions for its 2001-2002 season opener, "Jekyll & Hyde," at 7 p.m. July 13 and 2 p.m. July 14 and 15 at the theater's rehearsal hall.

The Broadway musical will run Sept. 14-20, with Laurence Paxton pre-cast as the doctor who creates a murderous personality counterpart.

The show, featuring book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and music by Frank Wildhorn, is noted for the song, "This Is the Moment."

Jade Stice will guest direct and choreograph the production, which recently concluded a four-year run on Broadway and is now on a national tour. DHT will present the Hawai'i premiere. Donald Yap will be musical director.

Salsa contest coming to club

"The Open Salsa Amateur Dance Contest" will begin July 12 as part of the Thursday "Salsa After Dark" parties at Rumours Night Club at the Ala Moana Hotel.

Semi-finals will be held on July 19, with finals on July 26.

Contestants must register by 9:45 p.m. on July 12 and July 19 to participate in the finals, which offer more than $1,000 in prizes. Information: 941-5216.
