Leeward fishing tourney set for Wai'anae
Registration is open for the 5th annual Ahi Fever in Wai'anae Fishing Tournament June 16 and 17.
The tournament, conducted from the Wai'anae Boat Harbor, is offering $116,000 in prizes and will accept the first 260 teams that apply. Event organizer Ed Nelson said 35 boat teams already have signed up for the event that fills up every year.
Entry fee before June 1 is $350 and $400 after. A portion of the Ahi Fever proceeds are used for scholarships for Leeward Coast youth.
A ho'olaule'a will be staged in conjunction with the tournament and include entertainment, craft and food booths, fishing boat and marine exhibits, antique cars and home improvement demonstrations.

Wai'anae panel sets agenda
Drinking alcohol in public parks and camping at Makua-Keana Beach Park will be discussed at the Wai'anae Coast Neighborhood Board's Parks and Recreation Committee meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Wai'anae Neighborhood Community Center.
Makua concerns to be discussed
The Army has scheduled a meeting for 3 p.m. today to cover environmental concerns, including fire prevention and the care of Makua Valley's endangered plants and animals.
Today's gathering is among three focus meetings scheduled by the Army to address concerns raised during the public comment period for its supplemental environmental assessment concerning Makua Military Reservation.
The other meetings will be:
March 24, 8 a.m.: This meeting will focus on community-related issues, including convoys along the Leeward Coast and the importance of the Pilila'au Range complex to the Army.
March 25, 3 p.m.: This meeting will cover cultural issues, to include addressing access to Makua for Native Hawaiians.
All meetings are public and will be held at the Wai'anae District Park Multi-Purpose Center.

North shore Library to hold Author's Night
Seven local authors will discuss their works, themselves and sign books for a fund-raiser from 6 to 8 p.m. March 22 at Waialua library, 67-068 Kealohanui St.
The authors are Ian MacMillan, Leslie Ann Hayashi, Susan Scott and Dr. Craig Thomas, John Wythe White, Stuart M. Ball Jr. and Ted Gugelyk.
The annual Author's Night at the Library is free and includes pupus all evening.
Windward Volunteer to be honored
The Rotary Club of Windward O'ahu has selected Alice A. Fink for its volunteer of the year award and she will receive the Service Above Self honor at a banquet in 6 p.m. April 28 at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
The award is given annually to a Windward resident whose volunteer work has improved the quality of life for the Windward community, said club president Bill Stone.
Fink's service to others includes 10 years with the Friends of Kailua Public Library, 24 years with the Honolulu Theatre for Youth, 10 years with the youth and adult literacy programs, The Outdoor Circle and Project Self Esteem.
"Mrs. Fink epitomizes Rotary International's motto of 'Service Above Self,' " Stone said.
The banquet is open to the public and costs $45 per person, $20 of which is a tax-deductible donation to the Windward Endowment Fund. Herb Lee and Hawai'i Loa will entertain.
