By Esme Infante Nii

People who want to better understand adoption and the myriad issues that surround it are invited to hear two experts give a free presentation Thursday at Central Union Church.

Annette Baran and Nancy Verrier, both of California, will speak from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Women's Building about how adoption affects the adoptive parents, adoptees and birth parents.

Baran is a retired adoption social worker, noted speaker and an adoption-reform pioneer. She is co-author of the "Adoption Reunion Survival Guide" and "The Adoption Triangle: Sealed or Opened Records, How They Affect Adoptees, Birth Parents, and Adoptive Parents," among other works.

Verrier is an adoptive parent; a marriage, family and child therapist specializing in adoption; an expert witness on adoption and separation issues; and author of "The Primal Wound: Understanding the Adopted Child." She will speak about adoption from the point of view of adoptees. She also will discuss how the adoptive parent, adoptee and birth parent affect each other.
