Texas Christian completed a three-game sweep by beating University of Hawai'i, 11-8, in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game last night before a crowd of 511 at Rainbow Stadium.
The Horned Frogs improved to 17-9 overall and 8-2 in the WAC. The Rainbows dropped to 8-16 and 3-12.
The Horned Frogs chased Matt Le Ducq (1-2) in the seventh. Ramon Moses' two-run triple was the big blow. Aaron Pribble replaced Le Ducq and struck out Terry Trofholz and walked Rudy Rivera. But a balk and two wild pitches accounted for two more runs to give TCU a 10-5 lead.
David Tombrella (4-1) pitched three scoreless innings of relief.
UH got a run in the eighth off Stan Newton, TCU's third reliever of the game, on a two-out, RBI single by Matthew Purtell.
TCU added a run in the ninth and UH mustered two in its half of the inning.
Wakon Childers' starting debut lasted only four-plus innings. He allowed five runs, 10 hits and three walks.
TCU took a 2-0 lead in the third on a two-run single by Trofholz.
The Rainbows came back with three in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch by TCU starter Chad Durham and a two-run home run by Gregg Omori.
Later, with the game tied at 5, TCU took the lead for good in the sixth without ever hitting a ball out of the infield. An infield single, a sacrifice and error and a bunt single loaded the bases. After Walter Olmstead struck out, Tom Bates' squeeze single scored Moses.
